Back To School 2016 --- Featuring Singer T-Lemons and Da A.N.D. Representa

This years annual  Back to School  "Shop Til You Drop" extravaganza keeps getting bigger and better every-time around that I've hosted it. This year they up-ed the ante with live entertainment presented by the Southern Wesleyan University Singers, Clemson University Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and the infamous Omega Psi Phi Fraternity aka the Que Dawgs.

All the college frat chapters in attendance did a spectacular job representing their school performing live step shows for a huge enthusiastic crowd inside the Central Walmart. 95.3 own DJ Fresh dropped all the latest hits from the one's and two's and I put on my emcee (M.C. Master Of Ceremony) hat as I am known to do at times while keeping the crowd laughing and hype as I raffled off many prizes.

I would like to Thank all the staff and especially the Deli crew at the Central Walmart because every year that I've hosted it, they have taken good care of us (Fresh and I) with free food and drinks. Special shouts to Ms. T-Lemons who put on a fabulous show and communicated to me that she thought I was a "Good Host" that night. Overall it was a fantastic showing and Fresh and I always receive a lot of love when there. I look forward to next year because I was told Governor Nikki Haley was in the building days prior due to the fact she is former Clemson alumni and I'm a Gamecock Fan. Oh the article that I would write about that experience.. (LOL)

Dj T-Rock - - -Proves Why He's A One Of a Kind Dj In The A.N.D....MUST SEE VIDEO!!!

Dj T-Rock is what I would call a freak of nature when referring to him as a disc jockey(which he is by definition) but he has always pushed the boundaries as an entertainer beyond that title. What I mean is how many guys that call themselves dj's but can only specialize in one specific style and or genre? Very few! Now if I throw in how many can mix records and grab a mic while in the middle of their set and wake-up a seemingly dead audience with their voice? It becomes even fewer! Now let's throw-in how many dj's can hit the dance floor to kick off a lack luster lethargic party vibe then transform it into a concert atmosphere? I don't know about dj's in other cities but the picking are slim to none here in the A.N.D. Except Dj T-Rock!!

Dj T-Rock and his sister Kim..
What alot of people forget especially, this new crop of millennia Dj's and most were never taught I suspect. Is that a [Dj sub-planted a band] on stage in the early years of hip-hop and was not just a person who played records but he or she was a well respected corner-stone of entertainment for the crowd they were helping to rock( as in Dj T-Rock) while the emcee held down the mic device. Dj T-Rock embodies all of these principals rolled into one. He doesn't turn-up but he will definitely work your body as he turns the party out. NO none sense and no gimmicks just the true spirit of an entertainer whether he's on the mix or the mic.

Dj Fresh and Wifey of 32yrs Deborah Cowans

Nothing proves my point more so, than recently when he did one of his signature shows at the A.N.D. Civic Center on M.L.K. at the wedding vows renewal ceremony for Dj Fresh and his wife of 32 yrs Deborah Cowans. With class, sophistication, skill, and grace he displays just one aspect of his many talents and in my opinion solidifies him as an A.N.D. Dj 2.0 vet. So to all yall sneak dissing dj hater's that hate on him, Take That as P.Diddy would say! If you would like to book him to entertain or Dj for your next event simply contact him at tylittlerone@gmail.com

Now watch below for yourself this man in action!!!! Like always leave a comment if you like.

Message From Lady Yaz To All Women---Don't Ever Lose Your Roar!!!

Lady Yaz freelance contributing Editor..

Ladies, so many of us are so busy with the cares of everyday life: the concerns of marriage, the caring of our children, our education, other goals, and our passion, that we forget to truly find our inner roar.  We sometimes end up forgetting about ourselves pertaining to what we desire or what we truly want out of life.  Sometimes we lose ourselves within everyone’s desire or purpose for themselves.
Queens, this truly has to end!  Please hear me…there’s nothing wrong with being there for our families, businesses, our friends, and loved ones, but you must take time out to find yourselves.  You need to find your place and inner roar in this world.  You matter and you have so much to offer and bring to the table.  In other words, you must find time to mold and shape the gifts within you that you can share with the world.

The Egyptian Goddess Sekhmet representing the femi-nine or feline principal of the woman..
So…what do you like to do?  What are you passionate about? What’s your life’s purpose and calling?  What is the vision for your life?  Have you truly sat down and thought about these things? If not, now is the perfect time to think about it.  2016 is here and you don’t want to begin a new year without having divine purpose.  To know why you were birthed upon this earth is a great feeling to have and once you know why, you won’t stop at nothing to complete your assignment.

This is what it means to unleash the inner lioness within you. She’s there, ready and waiting on you to really know who you are, so she can emerge from the depths of your spirit and ROAR like never before!  Once you find your roar, don’t allow anything to take it away from you!  Your roar is yours and yours alone! No one can take that from you, unless you give them permission to overtake your space, your spirit, and your inner peace.  Don’t ever allow that to happen. Selah.

Pop Music Sensation Macklemore---Weighs In On The Alton Sterling Shooting!!

Macklemore has always been outspoken about his ideals on racism. In the past, he has identified his own white privilege and called out celebrities, such as Iggy Azalea, for cultural appropriation.
Most recently, the “Same Love” rapper chose to speak up about the death of Alton Sterling, a Baton Rouge man shot by two Louisiana police officers.

Read what Mr. Macklemore's thoughts were on this polarizing  event captured from his instagram...
Click on Pic to enlarge.

Macklemore blames what happened to Sterling on what he refers to as “hundreds of years of conditioning.” “We have been told our entire lives that people that look like Alton Sterling, selling CD’s outside of a store, are a threat to our society,” Macklemore says. “The news, TV, movies, jails, history books, schools and our laws all uphold this false belief. A person isn’t born fearing someone because of the color of their skin. This fear is taught, crafted and instilled in the fabric of our American lives.”
What does the “White Privilege II” rapper believe will end injustice and senseless death? “The systematic oppression that enables a murder like this will be corrected once white people care enough to change it,” Macklemore says.

The Legend Of A Gone But Not Forgotten Shirt King In The A.N.D.--- A Tribute To Tommy L. Jackson

Just a week ago I learned of some very disheartening news by phone about a friend of mine of whom which I profoundly respected many years ago and regardless of his untimely passing, I will always revere him.  One thing I have come to realize as I have gotten older is that most of us{people in general} seem to never miss the water until after the proverbial well has run dry, we all have heard that phrase at one time or another. We wish to express things after the fact, meaning after a loved one or close friend whom may have made their transition, before we were given a chance to let them know personally the affect they had upon us and the difference they made personally in our life and the rest of the world.

Classic Tommy with his humorous personality always on display.

This is not just another typical article that I’m penning, but somewhat of an up close and personal revelation of how the late brother Tommy L. Jackson affected my life from the first time we met around the year 04.  With an infectious sense of humor and lively personality accentuated by a go getter attitude, that the world can be yours if you have the motivation and hustle to go get it. Yes from the brief time we spent in local entertainment together, that was one of the first things I learned just by observing his actions. I remember Tommy as being a family man, entrepreneur, an urban clothing aficionado, and always staying ahead of the fashion curve when it came to the hottest urban trends.
I’m proud to share with all my readers, there was also a “second thing" that rubbed off from him on me when he anointed me his first go-to Anderson Dj at the Original Club Envy in 05. For all those that remember and who were there, can and will attest I speak nothing but the truth! What did I learn you may ask?  He taught me that in any business that if you are serious about achieving your goals or dreams, you can’t sleep in late always, but that---- you must get up and get out to get something. Reminiscent to the 1994 Outkast hit record of the same title.

This principle Tommy practiced and preached religiously and became one of the main pillars of his work ethics that I personally became a witness too. I have fond recollections of him reiterating to me riding in his jeep when traveling to go load up some Dj Speaker cabinets for a gig, saying humorously in a patent tone that only he could do “ Tuccccck You Gotta Get Up Early Baaaaaby--- If you Gonna Make Some Monnney!”
The Late Great Dj T-Bone aka the "Crowd pleaser"
From that point forward he demonstrated to me through hard-work, stern actions and not just words, how and why he became such a success with his multiple “Shirt Kings and Queens’ urban outlets all around Anderson. From movies, music to the lasted fashions Shirt Kings either had it or could get it and let nothing or no one stand in the way of his business' expansion. Tommy was one of the few brothers in the city back then that supported my talents as a dj while presenting me the opportunity to sell music out the trunk of my car as a side hustle, and he was known to often support monetarily behind the scenes for local musical hip hop projects such as “Building An Empire” Da Mix tape Vol.1 mixed by the A.N.D.’s late great Dj T-Bone, and conceived by Buffalo, N.Y.’s own Franklin “Da Zelek” Stewart.

Classic Shirt Kings Drop By Tommy..

These are just a few of my own personal experience’s I felt I needed to share about how he impacted my life and so many others. None of us are perfect so we need not point the finger, it was not my intent to paint him in the image of a saint. We all have our flaws but when it came to helping people in his circle of whom he respected, as was my case he not only did that flawlessly, but he also exemplified the unique ability to inspire simultaneously .  Many years had passed since Tommy and I last conversed, I remember saying to his brother Carl “BiG Poppa” Jackson almost two months ago when he stopped in my place of business downtown about a cell phone issue he needed assistance with.

I ask him about his brother as my recollection would have it I said “Big Poppa can you tell Tommy that I asked about him and if he could drop by the shop the next time he’s in town because I really would like to see him in order to get his take on my apps and website work!” Sadly to say I never got that chance due to his untimely passing, but knowing him I know he would have given me the best advice on which direction I should maybe move next. At least I can received the comfort that my message was delivered to him before he left this plane of existence in the spiritual form thanks to his big brother.
Me Dj-ing Live  for Customer appreciation day at one of the old Shirt Kingz locations on Hwy 28 near the first walmart location in Anderson in 05.

People really don’t think about the pain they inflict upon a person’s family, friends and love ones when they commit senseless crimes against another person.  I remind all reading this small tribute piece, that there is such a law higher than man’s law, and its the law of the universe of the highest order of nature call it God or whatever your religious affiliation may term it. This law is reflected by way of our actions and deeds, so dear friends and family of brother Tommy let your hearts be not troubled because that vile act that person or persons perpetrated, they will surely reap double for all the pain and suffering they have cause stemming from their heinous acts. This is not conjecture but is by way of proven facts of the highest order of justice. I cannot fathom having to go I.D. my brother on my birthday when I anticipated celebrating that day with him just days prior.  Whether it was Danielle, Yolanda aka Veta, Big Poppa aka Carl or just sitting and talking with the matriarch of their family Ms. Linda, all would show me much respect when I hung out at any Shirt Kings location on Hi-way 28. And now with this small tribute to Tommy I wish to give you all that love and respect back, during this difficult week of your bereavement.

Rest In Paradise my Brother and Friend..

I considered Tommy a friend and a mentor in all aspects of an entrepreneur and a black businessman. Make no mistake his swag and humorous persona, I will always keep as fond memories in my heart as well as the business ethics he impressed upon me while working together with him here in the A.N.D..
My condolences again to each and every one that was related to or touched by Tommy L. Jackson because I definitely was, it was what motivated me to pen this small article in his honor…….9 Love (infinite) to all!!  I promised his sisters and brother that I would share my thoughts, thus I hope I didn’t let you all down..

Sincerely Dj Tuc -da A.N.D. Representa.

Please feel free to share your thoughts about your fond memories of Tommy and Shirt Kings below…

The Nice and Easy---- TMZ, A.N.D Proposal of the Summer (YOU MISSED!!)

6/3/2016

Ms. NeNe Leakes' recent stand-up gig in S.C. was interrupted by a guy (Slick The Ruler owner of the Nice and Easy Lounge in the A.N.D. aka Anderson) who decided to bust out a seriously one of a kind marriage proposal ... for his girlfriend (Key), not NeNe. This dovetails perfectly for an earlier article I wrote back in January to honor this special comedic businessman on the opening of his lounge entitled Nice and Easy--The Blueprint Of How Loungin Can Turn a Dream into Reality!

The 'Real House Wife's Of Atlanta' star was performing at The Comedy House in Columbia, SC when the smooth audience member (and also my good friend) handed NeNe a note asking if he could borrow the stage to pop the question. Of course if you know Slick like I do- well as it is often said "The Rest Is History" click on the video below to see this TMZ moment for yourself. CONGRATS TO BOTH KEY AND SLICK FOR LETTING THE WORLD KNOW IN A "SLICK COMEDIC FASHION" THAT LOVE IS TRULY STILL ALIVE IN THE AFRICAN-AMERICAN URBAN COMMUNITY.

Nimrod---Return Of The Hustle, Return Of The Real!!

A.N.D. Rap Veteran Nimrod recently released his long awaited independent mixtape project entitled “Still Countin” and unleashed it on the streets of the city of Anderson, SC last month in May 2016. This brother is not new to the music scene if you are unfamiliar with him or his contributions in the A.N.D., simply read my earlier article that I wrote about his legacy by clicking right here. His better half Amber appears to be his biggest fan and best promoter, because that’s how I was put on notice about his newest mixtape effort.

Of course after having a week to listen and properly vetted the project as I am known to do with a lot of local artist before giving my thoughts in literary fashion on my site. I have arrived at this monumental conclusion, after reviewing this fourteen track fusion of hard lyrical mayhem laced with a sizzling conflation of music production. The mixtape stamp sorely under values this project and can be deceptive to potential consumers who may have never heard of Nimrod or may be on the fence about giving him a solid listen. In my opinion this joint is nothing short of a full fledged album and by calling it a “mixtape” is really a misnomer. Please don’t let that deter you- - -‘’GIVE IT A LISTEN’’ it goes harder than most commercial rap hits you may have heard the Dj play recently when you were last at a party or club setting. It’s a damn shame that more local Dj’s and people in general don’t show hard working local artist some love in the A.N.D., but are quick to spin records from outta town artist who come here and do numerous shows yet never help our many talented local artists get on!! THIS HAS GOT TO STOP!!

His last full length project to my knowledge was entitled “Shop Closed” pressed by Electric City Records in the earlier part of the 2K millennium on ‘’Black Reign Entertainment.’’ His flow on that slept on album was top notch and the music production geared toward that head nodding real hip hip boom bap sound of the late 90’s and early 2000’s.  ‘’Pop that Top’’ and ‘’Player Player’’ are still for the most-part relevant for any true A.N.D. hip hip head like myself. His newest installment was long awaited and well worth it from the onset of the first track as he delivers the intro. He pulled the surprise “Power Move” of the year when I read that “Go Hard Studios” the brain child of fellow music veteran Prafessa engineered the mixing, mastering and while compiling a portion of the music production. I expressed verbally to Nimrod when he visited my place of business that after I discovered  chopps was involved“I knew It Was On!’’ The “Crazy Town Remix” is the first track setting the tone of the project, lyrically anchored by Prafessa and rapper Time I$ Money.

It’s an autobiography expose’ of personal struggles and tragedies they collectively had to overcome in their personal lives living in the A.N.D. in earlier years. Producer “Boogie” grabbed my ear on track four immediately with the booming bass soundscape of the song entitled “Classic” while appropriately titled because it meshes perfectly with Nimrod’s Classic verbal flow. At times in that track Nimrod’s flow is reminiscent of Andre 3000 when he raps about being a “Biggie Small Classic” and how a lot of rappers ‘’ain’t trapping these N!gg@z acting!’’ That verse was so Pac like and one of the “truest verses I have heard an A.N.D. rapper spit in a while!’’ On the song ‘’Middle of The Stage” the Southside A.N.D. veteran lyricist slash producer “Correseptic’’ lends his talents on music production using an ingenious dope Gorilla Zoe sample on the hook. Sept is so under-rated as a producer I keep reiterating and Time I$ Money delivers another solid performance with his verse complimenting Nimrods’ heated verbal’s again so perfectly.

Track eight is a reminder by Nimrod to any and all listeners from outside the city of Anderson that the streets of the A.N.D. can be frightening in certain areas on the song called “Scared” produced by and featured on the hook---non other than Prafessa himself. Nimrod warns on how some kats from his hood and on the streets can “get dumb as if straight off a mini bus!’’ Metaphorically it’s genius because we all remember those special needs buses while in school. Come on don’t front, yall remember! [Ha! Ha!]

The Westside’s veteran lyrical bomber finished up this project super strong with tracks like “100 Bands” utilizing a commercial Drake like feel on the hook that is sure to attract not only trap music listener’s but also mainstream consumers alike.  The heavy soulful bass laden melodic track  “No Options” draws you into a suspended world Nimrod describes as Black Bottle Poppin  meaning when it’s time to Ball its really no other option when an individual is on his or her hustle. King Blonka and Doot Byrd serve up dope lyrical performances figuratively and literally, worthy of 5 mics in my opinion on the last record of the disc titled “Pressure.’’

For instance, Doot Byrd makes a reference to hydrobonic plants so strong you couldn’t kill them with round up. If you are confused that’s A.N.D. street lingo.  If puzzled simply wait until you hear the turnt-up surperb pumping chaotic mayhem sounds of this track produced by Shawty Redd. Once you here it everything becomes clear trust me! King Blonka appears to be putting in a lot of work these days lyrically, though I haven’t met him personally, his hard work proceeds him. Meaning he’s a very sought after brother that I’ve heard featured on many other artist records that I’ve listened to and not to negate the fact he always holds his own. Salute goes out to King Blonka.

On his verse in Pressure he speaks [Blonka] street dialectic making it clear, when on the hustle you gotta “always look out for the “Noon People” translation twelve N!gg@! Impressive because these kats seem to really write and then recite, hard work really shows when they step in the booth to lace a track. All real ill spitters have this quality where as they make you rewind their verse several times and make you say “damn I didn’t catch that the first time I heard it.’’ I must confess I had to do it on the Pressure verses several times being they were straight fluid fire.

Overall my last thoughts are “Still Counting” is a quality sounding dope project in the truest since of the word. Creativity, lyrical prowess, conceptual poetic ordered thoughts aligned and the most important ingredient originality is what I look for. I’m proud to say it had all those qualities and then some. Nimrod would say Khackilac Bounce Back, but DJ Tuc says A.N.D. Bounce Back, simply because the Carolinas never respected us or supported our music until as of late. But the A.N.D. has always repped the Carolinas with our music when no other city in S.C. would show us any love. How Do I know? Because I was there in 96 shouting I’m from the A.N.D. and no one heard us. Now 20 years later they hear me say it to an audience of tens of thousands all over the upstate on the radio thanks to the supportive Kelly Mac. I am the da A.N.D. Representa still supporting those from my city and I salute you and the growth I hear in your music. Hey Nimrod---- there's nothing left to say except keep grinding. Haters nor twelve can stop a man or woman who is focused and determined. KEEP APPLYING THE PRESSURE..
